My 20-week ultrasound is next week--hard to believe we're almost halfway there! I've always thought that I wouldn't want to know the sex of the baby before birth. But now I'm wavering. Mr. X has always leaned toward finding out at the ultrasound. I talked to a friend who said that he didn't understand people who say they want to be surprised (this is just after I told him I wanted to be surprised). "Isn't it a surprise whenever you find out? What you're really saying is that you want a surprise that's inconvenient."
And now that it's looking more and more like we'll be having two (and we know that we're adopting a boy--our agency required us to choose), I'm thinking that there are some advantages to knowing in advance.
What do you think?

hahaha I can't figure out why people would want to be surprised!! :)
Congratulations on the boy! ;)
Hey How is the coupon thing going? It's not going so well for me. It was great at first but not so much anymore! ;)
I HAVE to know as soon as possible so I can start knitting and getting my friends to give me their kids' clothes :)
I always wanted the first one to be a surprise, but Matt wanted to know immediately. So we compromised and found out but didn't tell anyone. Well, that was the plan anyway. :)
I would totally find out! It's so fun knowing and maybe even being able to call it by its name. It's such a bonding experience for the last 20 weeks of the pregnancy. You get to daydream about your son or daughter. It's awesome!
I have always said I would never find out if we were to get pregnant - but I think I'm a lot of big talk, because I'm always dying for my friends and family to find out so I can know!! :) I don't think there really is a right/wrong decision -- so much fun either way, and it really might come in handy to know if you'll have 2 little boys or one of each coming your way. Congratulations on everything!!
I really have no idea what I would choose. I can see the fun in both ways, but what has me justifying finding out before the birth is that when the angels all announced the birth of a child that always said if it would be a son or daughter. I think that is in almost all of the scripture passages i know about. I could be completely wrong. By the way, since I am thinking that, was there ever the announcement of a daughter? Or were it only sons?
Anyway, I think you are so blessed at this time and I pray for you and Mr. X and the two children in your very immediate future!
I always thought I wanted the surprise in the delivery room, too. But now I'm thinking maybe we'll find out. Still not sure. Sorry I wasn't more help!!
Even though we just found out we're pg, people have already started asking, "are you going to find out or be surprised?" I have no idea!
Finding out ahead of time is more practical, planning ahead for clothes and the room. But then again, others who have already had babies have said to me, "That was the best surprise of my life, when I gave birth and found out I had a boy/girl." Though I kind of feel that actually getting pg was a big enough surprise!!
This really didn't answer your question, did it? Either way, you're having a baby!!!
You're having TWO babies!! :)
I have always said that when the time comes for me I want to be suprised at the birth. Also, I don't want to be tempted into settling on a name before I see my maybe baby. The D will want to know though, and it won't take much for me to give in.
I've done it both ways and it is always a surprise...no matter when you find out. I say find out now! Planning is so much fun...shopping, decorating, etc. When the baby is born it's so exciting you don't really care what the sex is...I'm just so glad it's OUT and doing well.

I always wanted to find out however my husband and in-laws are 100% against it. So I think I've been converted!
I liked your friend's justification though! I might use that on my husband if the time ever comes for us!
By the way, I tagged you on my blog!
