Opinions, please!

Oh my goodness, I really appreciate the comments yesterday! Not only because it's nice to get comments, but also because I completely forgot about IComLeavWe until I saw them at 10:30 last night!

So, we've been totally absorbed in the insane hardwood floor project for the last week and a half. We've both been more or less off work, so we've been working on it all day, every day. We've put in almost 400 sq ft, with 50 more to go--tomorrow, I hope!

To illustrate the level of chaos in my life, I will give you one small example. I was called for jury duty on July 8th. That was the week we were going to be out of town. I concientiously marked the "Vacation" box on the postponement request and put the summons aside to check the alternate dates I would be available.

So, yesterday, that is, July 21st, we were eating lunch, and something jogged my memory. I had this awful sinking feeling that I hadn't sent in the postponement request. I ran into the living room (where everything is piled up while we work on the dining room, the usual dumping ground), and within about 30 seconds (I'm good with piles), I found the summons! Which read at the bottom "failure to respond to a jury summons is punishable by a fine of up to $750, up to six months in prison, or both." AAAAAAAH!

I called the number on the summons, and got voice mail. I sat and stared into space for a while, contemplating life in prison. A lady called back and gave me another number to call. Thank goodness, the jury commissioner answered, and I threw myself on her mercy. She was very chipper about the whole thing, looked up my juror number, and told me I hadn't been required to report on the 8th. She said "well, that really worked out better in the end! If you had sent in the postponement, you might have had to come in here later!"

So, all's well that ends well and all that, but this floor nearly sent me to prison!

In another example of the insanity, we have a new niece or nephew due, oh, tomorrow! Two new nephews have been born since we were married, and I crocheted a gift for each of them. They (and this new little one) all live very far away (far enough that we've seen my four-year-old nephew only twice), so it's not like it will be a crisis if my gift for this one isn't ready immediately, but I haven't even picked a pattern yet! I decided to make a blanket, and these are my three top choices--which one do you think I should make?

Choice A: Lacy blanket
Choice B: Ribbon blanket
Choice C: Round blanket

I think I vote for B, but they're all cute.

I can't believe your floor almost landed you in jail! I actually have always wanted to have jury duty and I never get called!

I am loving A: the Lacy blanket! And I'm impressed by your obvious crocheting talents if that's the level of difficulty you're taking on. I am an avid knitter but have recently embraced the way of crochet and it's so much faster (well the easy scarf pattern I crocheted up was fast anyway)...

Here from ICLW. I am going to make it more difficult and vote for C. A round blanket is so interesting and different. Good Luck finishing the floor!

Hehe. I've never been called for jury duty. I can't imagine that they actually do much if you accidentally skip one. I bet you would have just gotten a little fine.

I think I like B for the blanket. But, seriously, they are all so cute that whichever you choose will be perfect. (Hint: pick the easiest!)

I liked the lacy one at first... but the one with the ribbon reminds me of my niece's baby blanket (that she STILL holds while watching tv- she's 11). She always LOVED this tiny satin edging around her blanket, and when she was 2 1/2 or 3, would tell us all that we could rub it between our fingers. It was the CUTEST thing ever, because that's what she loved to do (it was her favorite part), and she wanted to share that with us!

So I vote for the ribbon one, as long as the ribbon is satin :)

God was looking out for you with that jury duty thing! Can you imagine??? Blogging from your jail cell... hehehe... sorry, the image is funny.

I love A, but I think B would be great for a baby. My sister also had a satin-edged baby blanket that she loved to put between her fingers. I think the textures of B would be great for a baby.

I like all of the blankets -- BUT if I had to pick one it would be the ribbon blanket -- B... I love ribbon. And while you are at it could you whip up a couple for my twin girls. Seems like you have lots of spare time to be whipping out blankets.... hahah

I crochet too. Though I only know one stitch that I've been using for YEARS. Anyway. I like B. The ribbon is a really nice touch and as pp commented the texture would be nice. My brother and I had the satin edging on our baby blankets my brother loved rubbing his fingers on that edging, so much so that my mom repeatedly had to replace it.

I like the ribbon blanket, but the lacey one may be faster. Good luck getting your floor done!

I like them in the order you included them although A and B are a close tie. I think the part about B that I don't prefer as much is the big gap between the main part of the blanket and the edging. Still, I enjoy them all.

I'm excited that you're able to work on these patterns. I'm in the middle of crocheting bridal shower gifts, wedding gifts and baby shower gifts. My previous recipients seem impressed with about my mundane pattern, half double, chain, half double - back and forth until the project is finished. I guess I take it for granted. I usually prefer making my own pattern to reading another. I commend you for your extra efforts!

I understand about not being able to find things in your home when life is crazy. I've been married for about 100 days and am now updating my last name everywhere starting with my SS card. Problem is I need my marriage license to do so. Yep, I ended up paying $10 to get a certified copy because after searching around, we still couldn't find the original.

Thank you for commenting on my blog. I appreciate the prayers and realize we all go through different ups and downs at different times. Now is just a down time for me, but I am working toward climbing back up to sanity. Ha!

I like option B, since you are asking for opinions.
